We would like to welcome Mona K. and her husband, Ernie to our L4th Ward Relief Society. Mona grew up in Hurricane, Utah which is in the southern part of the state, about 25 miles from St. George, Utah. When she was a junior in high school, her father bought a ranch just outside of Casper, Wyoming where Ernie is from. One evening she went with a few of her friends to a movie and during the intermission, Ernie and a couple of his friends came over to them. To make a long story short, Ernie later called and asked if Mona would go with him and another couple to a movie. He showed up the following Sunday at Mona’s home and visited for awhile. Mona told him he would have to leave because she was going to church (before the block program). Ernie asked if he could go with her to church and of course Mona said yes. So they went back to Casper, five miles out of town, where he changed clothes, and from that day on, he was a frequent visitor at Mona’s home. Mona and Ernie have NINE children but raised only eight of them when their eighth child died at birth. They have three daughters and five sons that are scattered all over the world. They also have 45 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren by the end of the year. They can hardly believe it! Mona’s daughter, Sherri, and husband, Von O. (President of PCC), have been trying to get them to come to Hawaii and do volunteer/missionary work. Mona and Ernie were offered care takers of the Hukilau Timeshare house. This was a way for them to come, have their own place, etc. Mona’s favorite color for the most part of her life has been blue but that does change from time to time. Her favorite ice cream was Burnt Almond Fudge but this flavor is no longer made. Her favorite restaurant in Utah is Market Street Grill. It has wonderful clam chowder and many fish entrees. Mona’s favorite channels on television are Fox News and The Hallmark Channel. Mona doesn’t have many hobbies right now. She just keeps busy crocheting Christmas stockings for her great-grandchildren. Mona also loves to read good books. Her ultimate favorite thing to do is to spend time with her family, next to that would be reading and going to the temple. Mona is hoping to get her journals typed while she is here in Hawaii as well as making a scrapbook of their time here. She would also like to learn some of the Hawaiian dances. Mona and Ernie are so happy to be here in L-town and are looking forward to meeting everyone. We are so excited to have Mona and Ernie as part of our L4th Ward Ohana and more particularly our Relief Society.
